CHIA SEEDS
Chia seeds – the royal offerings to the ancient Aztec rulers, the staple nutritional food and drink of the South Americans, approved by the European Union as a novel food additive in breads, cakes, breakfast cereals, yoghurts, etc. and recognized a super food of the 21st century have the best of the goodies that seeds can offer.
Chia seeds contain 42% carbohydrates, 31% fat, 16% protein, and 6% water. A 100 gm Chia seed diet can provide 54% of Thiamine (B1), 59% of Niacin (B3), 14% of Riboflavin (B2) and 12% of Folic acid (B9) of the daily requirement needed for the human body. It also contains 20% of the dietary minerals required viz. zinc, phosphorous, manganese, magnesium, iron, and calcium. It has high amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids (Omega-3 and Omega-6) with 20% linoleic acid, 55% linolenic acid and also amino acids, as well as soluble and insoluble fiber.
